RevOps is still a relatively new title or job function in many companies and universal KPIs have not yet been established. And so, team members run the risk of being seen as glorified Salesforce Admins, responsible for pulling data, creating reports, and making tactical updates, usually requested by the GTM team.

But as a RevOps team member, you know you have more to offer than simply executing a list of tasks. The trick is finding a way to shift the perception of your role so that leadership understands the strategic impact you can have across the entire organization.

We recently teamed up with RevOps Co-Op to create a webinar addressing this very topic. If you missed it, don’t worry: you can watch the webinar here.

In the meantime, we’ve distilled our advice into seven steps designed to help you transform your RevOps role and earn a seat at every strategic GTM discussion.

  1. Introduce Yourself Sure, you could start with your name and even a fun fact, but if the GTM leaders you work with are not fully aware of your capabilities, it’s incredibly important that you introduce what you do and why it’s crucial. Come prepared to the meeting with key insights or examples of impact so the GTM team can clearly see how your participation in strategic conversations is not just helpful, but vital.
  2. Increase Process Visibility Let’s face it: greater visibility leads to greater understanding. Help the GTM team members get a better sense of your processes and how they represent the customer journey. Once this conversation is in full swing, it’s a great opportunity for collaboration as well. Ask leadership for their thoughts so you can fully align with their team.
  3. Add a Level of Data Transparency Position yourself as the source of truth for all unbiased results, trends, and insights for the company. All of these items – plus the data behind them – provide invaluable information that can help drive smarter, more strategic business decisions. Let the data speak for itself, but give yourself a position to be the translator. Rather than omitting certain items, represent the full picture so the GTM team can get an unfiltered view of what’s happening behind the scenes.
  4. Make Everything Run More Efficiently I know, if only it were that easy. But as a RevOps rock star, you can identify – and update – key areas where processes can be made more efficient for the teams that you support. Is there an opportunity to remove administrative work? Go for it. And then make sure you keep a record of all the key updates you’re making that are saving the team and the company valuable time.
  5. Decrease the Amount of Human Error You probably don’t think you have the power to do this, but you do: in the form of automations. Manual processes are time-consuming and prone to error. If they fail, everyone looks bad. By automating items within Salesforce, you can create a “safety net” that helps the entire organization feel more confident.
  6. Find Ways to Collaborate with Leadership You want to work with leadership and guess what: they want to work with you, too. By starting a conversation about strategy, you’ll be able to better align with the GTM team’s goals while also sharing your own work.
  7. Present Your Work … More Than Once This probably goes without saying, but in order to get a seat at the table, it’s important to open the discussion AND keep it going. Continue to present your findings so that leadership can see how valuable your strategic insights are – and will continue to be – as the company grows and evolves.
